Steve Brickman's Bash Report

... and the food was good too! What could be better?

I didn't have the 3 decades of history with anyone there. I'd only heard of the infamous 'Dr. Ken' for the first time about a year ago. I had at least heard and known about Dave Draper prior to that. Only really getting a quick introduction to Dr. Ken, and I never even got to talk to Dave. However some interesting things came to mind just from watching them:

1. I'd seen the video before, but meeting/seeing Dr. Ken in person really puts it into perspective: How the heck can he squat with 400+ pounds on his back! It just gets more impressive when you get more information. Kudos.

2. Both Ken and Dave are an excellent speakers. Ken really talks to a crowd well and communicates well. (And admits to enjoying bragging about his family.) Both knew what they knew and deferred immediately when they suspected someone knew more then themselves. This is something you don't see often, people who recognize their strong points and are willing to let someone else talk when appropriate.

3. I don't know if Dave still does any competition, but he is still amazingly built. He looks like you feel after an excellent workout: pumped, chest out, and ready to rock and roll. Only he isn't pumped, he is standing there relaxed.

Between Dave and Ken, how can you argue with daily exercise? It obviously does you good. As Dave said "Its not 'Why should I workout today?', its 'Why wouldn't I workout today?' It was awesome being there, I hope something like this happens again.

I focused on the Ken and Dave angle here, but it was quite the pleasure meeting Kit and Dan. I actually spent the bulk of BBQ time bs'ing with Kit. Dan was just so busy, it was touch and go talking. When I walked up to Kit, he took the opportunity to call the beans done and step aside to chat.
