Story? Passing thought? Hmmm ... fresh out. ... Oh, I remember now.

It went something like this: Some of us were privately sending our regrets to Laree for not making it to this week's gathering put on by our ever-gracious hosts. Now, e-mail is a nice and wondrous thing, but being humans of a particular breed, a special tribe of sorts, we surely ought to get together in person. In the flesh. It's natural and it's a good idea. No time to be shy or worry about other's expectations. We've become friends. This weekend is the time. That Ogish little plan was truly a winner. The Draper Welcome Mat was out. We all should have been there.

Those of us who were unable to make the pilgrimage to Santa Cruz, though, are rightfully and deeply bummed and envious. Many of us did everything possible. But, unfortunately, life has a way of intruding. Reality sometimes bites. Money, time, kids, work, responsibilities, whatever. Life is fleeting and we're truly missing one of those Golden Opportunities. Memories made. Memories missed. "Maybe next year," someone said. "How about Las Vegas?" mused another. "How about October, 2002," I wondered.

Indeed.

What with Bash 01 barely in its infancy, will there be another? A Second Annual Bomber Bash in the second full year of the millennium? How appropriate.

Perfect Fall weather in Southern Nevada, an extension of Summer for those on whom Winter is rapidly descending. Thousands of hotel rooms, from El Cheapo to Bellagio. Flights to/from 24/7. Easy to get to. The casinos practically pay you to come. If you can't make it in 15 months, you aren't trying very hard. The time to start planning is now.

Also seems appropriate to have it in the City of Lights, the Bash Capital of the World, if you will. What better time than late October, 2002 during Olympia Week? More big biceps/traps/lats/tris/quads and all the rest than you can imagine in one place, and I'm not just talking about on the stage. A bodybuilding convention. Everyone Who Has Ever Been Anyone. That guy in the "World Gym - Pelham, Alabama" t-shirt in front of you in the buffet line with the traps up to his ears is on his third plate of eggs, beef, and cottage cheese. Plenty more to do too, from a couple of days of expos, to fitness contests, to that little show they call the Olympia. I also hear the town has a few other distractions for those so inclined, from family mild to ... well, er ... Wild. Take your choice.

All that and a Bombadier Party. Rumor has it that Dave and Laree might show up. I think it's true.
