Mr. Universe 1966
The day after the Mr. Universe contest in 1966, Jimmy Caruso snapped this shot as Joe Weider stood behind him, deftly directly the posing. There were a dozen or more Mr. America and Mr. Universe contest winners packed behind the lights and camera waiting to be photographed.
Somewhere in the heart of Manhattan on the fifth floor of a soon-to-be condemned clothing factory, we all sweated out a late hot summer afternoon.
The night before the excitement was unbridled and the audience participation was intense, inspiring and personal. None of us will ever forget the overwhelming chills as the crowd roared and thundered their approval.
